5 Top Tips for your website in 2022

5 Top Tips for your website in 2022

First of all – Happy New Year and let’s all welcome 2022 and work together to make it a year of growth and success in business!

One of the things which can be useful at the dawn of a new year is to get back to basics when it comes to your website. Here are my top five tips to help you see the best way forward for your ‘window’ on the digital world:

  1. What is the purpose of your website?

As obvious as this may seem, it is often overlooked. Some people are never happy with their website, the reason being, because they have no defined goals for it or have not even created a plan of what content they want on their website.

When you have a plan in place:

Support all of the key messages on your site, with strong ‘calls to action’ on each page to notify people of what they have to do.

For example, if you are selling widgets, make it obvious how much they cost and how you purchase them, and have a click button or click link for customers, make it very easy for them to buy.

If you want to generate enquiries, make sure your contact details are visible on every single page on the site – not just on the ‘contact us’ page.

Make it as easy as possible for people to get in touch with you. Help people to feel comfortable in contacting you – with as few clicks as possible (ideally none) to find your contact details.

Basic contact details should be:

  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Get in touch, email form – (don’t just rely on this, many customers are put off by you expecting them to do all of the work or they want to feel they are talking to a human being not part of a process).
  1. Do not use stock pictures or in fact generic, anything!

Stock photos can be used by anyone and everyone. How will your potential clients feel, if they look at your site, having visited a previous one, and they see exactly the same images?  It can happen, but if it does, they won’t be staying on your site.

By having professional pictures taken you are showing your customers and clients that you value your business by investing both time and money in the look of your website, and ultimately, the experience of any visitors.

People visiting your website will be able to see your people, your buildings, and your products or services – everything will be unique to your business.

Video is also very important these days, so, as with photography, it is worth paying for a short, professional video to add content to your website.

Don’t then ruin all of your hard work and good investment on photography and video by then using a generic WordPress Theme – get a bespoke web design.

  1. Get search engines to notice you, they will then promote you

Google Local Business is a free service, so make sure you enter all of your business’s details onto it and keep it up to date.

Regularly post on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and if appropriate, Instagram, and get these referenced on your website.

Search engines like to see you are active, and social media is a great way of showing you are engaging with people on the internet.

Google algorithms are updating constantly, so it is important for you to keep up to date too. Use Google Analytics to track the traffic to your site.

  1. Provide Search Engines with more reasons to promote you rather than your competitors

Update your website’s content regularly. Having a blog section or case studies section where you can regularly add content. Or regularly update your products and services.

If you frequently update your website, search engines will be aware of this and therefore regularly keep checking your website. This will install confidence in search engines that you are active, and they will be more confident to promote your website and subsequently your business, against your competitors.

  1. Maintain your website

Make sure, that as a minimum, you have your website regularly backed up.
